We’re back!
Well, we’ve started work in the streets - although of course there is a lot going on behind the scenes as well!
Last Sunday, we carried out pull tests on the wall anchorages to which the supporting wires are attached. A third of these are tested each year. One crew spent a full day on a cherry picker doing that important work, and recording the results. Thankfully there were very few problems found. However, we do have some more anchorages to install in the next couple of weeks.
Meantime, another crew tested all the set pieces, and all those needing repairs (mainly replacing sections of ropelight which has failed) taken to our work area for repairs.
This weekend, there will just be one machine in use again, but this time installing the festoon - the zig-zag of coloured lights right through the town, and, if there is time, the transformers which feed the displays in a dozen or so locations, stepping down the mains voltage to 24 volts, which is used for everything in the display. The week after, we hope to complete that work and then move in to erecting set pieces. The other crew will be doing those ropelight repairs, and starting on the new items for 2024 (most of the work on which will be done during weekdays).
One Sunday gone - five more to go!
